Where did Kinesiology come from?

It was developed in the 1960s by Dr George Goodheart, combining modern Western techniques with knowledge pulled from Eastern health systems.
How does it work?

In Kinesiology, we consider that anything can be the cause or cure of any thing, and as such we must look at the person as a whole – treating mental, chemical, physical, emotional and energetic systems together. Factors affecting your physical body may be creating emotional distress, and in turn, emotional distress could be impacting organ functionality. For example, chronic neck pain could lead to a person feeling overwhelmed and irritable and by the same token, this irritability could contribute to digestive issues, acidity and potential ulcers.

Kinesiology makes use of muscle testing techniques to monitor the flow of energy throughout the body, identifying areas which may be disrupting this natural flow.

What is muscle testing and how does it tell you what is wrong?

Muscle testing in Systematic Kinesiology does not assess overall strength, but tests the capability to switch on or off when called to contract. Many different factors in the body determine this muscle response, similar to an electrical circuit with a fuse. If the fuse is blown, the circuit does not work, and if the fuse has the wrong rating, this could also stop the circuit from working correctly. Note that this response is subconscious, and neither the therapist nor the client can influence the feedback from the muscle.

The Kinesiologist will ask the client to place their limbs in specific positions, each position relating to a different muscle. The therapist will then challenge the muscle by pressing against the limb for a few seconds to see if it can hold steady or if it collapses, meaning there is a break in the circuit. Every muscle is related to a different organ and system in the body, as well as an energetic pathway called a meridian.
What to expect
What happens in a session?
In your initial treatment, the first 20-30 minutes will consist of a consultation to cover your day to day life, current and past health history, as well as any areas of your life you would like to work on, are frustrated with etc. You will then remove your shoes and lie down on a treatment bed fully clothed, and your therapist will begin a series of muscle tests to identify where the imbalances in the body lie.
Bespoke techniques are then used to correct imbalances causing any circuit breaks. Your therapist will use lymphatic massage and structural techniques, test nutritional supplements to identify which specific ones will help the specific imbalance, re-balance you energetically using meridians and acupressure points and will talk through emotions, worries, stress throughout the whole treatment.
How will I feel afterwards?
Each treatment can be very powerful, moving a lot of stagnant lymph and energy around the body. Clients often feel relaxed, light, calm in both body and mind. Occasionally, you may feel tranquil and like taking it easy after a treatment – it is recommended to not strain yourself in this instance, and to do something peaceful that gives you joy. Our bodies are often on constant overdrive, and when they are given a chance to relax it is important to take advantage of the moment.
Is it safe for me?
Systematic Kinesiology is a gentle, non-invasive, drug-free holistic therapy that is safe for anyone, from babies through to the elderly. The pressure used to put on the muscles is very slight, and in the event that you require a treatment for your new born, testing and treatment can be done through a surrogate. Kinesiology does not diagnose disease or illness and can be used as a complementary form of treatment alongside any other treatment you may be having.
Do I have to take the nutrition recommended/make the dietary changes recommended?
Nutrition makes up approximately 25% of your treatment, and hugely helps strengthen the circuit. Vitamins and minerals boost systems which are lacking purely from your diet, and dietary changes may be the thing which fixes your allergies or stops your eczema. These essential additions to your daily life will amplify the speed of healing in between treatments, as well as support and nourish your whole body and mind.
How quickly can I expect to see results?

While every person is different, the majority of clients will feel some relief either physically or emotionally quickly after the first treatment. This will improve drastically by following the advice and homework given. Most people tend to have resolved issues in three to six sessions, dependent on how long they have had a specific issue and their willingness to follow the possible minor changes required.
How often should I have treatments?
Most clients will have a treatment once a month, however in more severe cases it may be every two weeks. One optimal balance is achieved, a maintenance treatment every three months is recommended.
